Number of Samples Needed for homogeneous materials/areas:
Non-Friable Suspected Materials: At least 2 samples needed. If the product is glued down or multi layered, all layers must be tested, including the adhesive/glue/mastics and other underlayment’s, bringing the total to 4 or maybe even 6 samples.
Surfacing or Friable Materials areas less than 1,000sqft: At least 3 samples.
Surfacing or Friable Materials areas 1,000sqft to 5,000sqft: At least 5 samples.
Surfacing or Friable Materials areas greater than 5,000sqft: At least 7 samples.
Example: Lets say your getting ready to remodel a room in your basement and have asbestos concerns. Specifically, the ceiling texture and glued down flooring tile in a room of approximately 200sqft. The ceiling would be considered friable and require (3) samples, while the floor tile itself would only need (2). However, the flooring is glued down, requiring the the glue/mastic to also be tested, bringing your total of samples to (7).
